Comprehensive School Safety Plan

The Spreckels Union School Disitrict is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for  students, staff, parents, and visitors at each of our school sites (Sprekels Elementary School & Buena Vista Middle School).

To acheive this goal, the District has formed a Safety Committee that meets regualrly throughout the year to make sure policies and procedures are in place to deal with any type of crisis. The Safety Committee is comprised of District administration, teachers, support staff, parents, community members, and local first responders. One of the primary responsibilities of the Safety Committee is to review and update the District's Comprehensive School Safety Plan that is presented to the Board of Trustees and shared with the Monterey County Office of Education. In addition, the Safety Committee works with site principals to schedule and evaluate regualr safety drills throughout the year. These drills include fire, earthquake, shelter in place, and active shooter.

The District relies on its parents and community members when developing safety procedures. Please see the Parent Emergency Response Information for ways that you can support the District in case of an emergnecy. We thank you in advance for helping us keep our students and staff as safe as possible.
